Screen Gems bringing The Last of Us to the screen

March 6, 2014 by admin

It’s been revealed that Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game The Last of Us is getting the movie treatment courtesy of Screen Gems and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, with the game’s Creative Director Neil Druckmann set to pen the script for the big screen adaptation.

“Screen Gems’ Brian Dukes and Eric Ling brought this game to my attention insisting we go after it,” said Clint Culpepper, president of Screen Gems. “When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay. I am thrilled that SCEA’s Riley Russell was able to get me in front of Neil and Evan Wells to plead my case. And Sam his team at Ghost House round out the perfect team to help realize Neil’s vision.”

The Last of Us is set twenty years after a virus ravages humanity, and follows two survivors, Joel and Ellie, as they struggle to survive a journey across a ravaged, post-epidemic United States. The game has won a host of awards, including a Writers Guild of America Award for Outstanding Achievement in Writing for Video Games, and leads the nominations for the BAFTA Video Game Awards with ten nods.

Are you excited at the prospect of The Last of Us getting a movie adaptation? Let us know your thoughts….
