Jared Leto has his locks snipped ready for Joker role in Suicide Squad

March 3, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Originally published March 3, 2015. Updated April 13, 2018.

After taking to Twitter to tease some big upcoming news regarding his DC film Suicide Squad, David Ayer has revealed two new tweets which show a pre and post-snipped Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) as he prepares to start work in the film as The Joker.

In the photos, Leto is shown getting his trademark long-haired locks snipped away to make way for a shorter style, one that is synonymous with many of the comic-book interpretations of the character, and different to the longer, ragged style of Heath Ledger’s Oscar winning performance in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

Leto joins an all-star cast in the film, alongside Will Smith (Focus) as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman (Robocop) as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney (Terminator Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne (The Face of an Angel) as Enchantress, Viola Davis (Blackhat) as Amanda Waller and Margot Robbie (Focus) as The Joker’s “little lady” Harley Quinn.

Written and directed by Ayer, Suicide Squad is currently in pre-production in Toronto, Canada, and will start shooting in April until the Autumn, with a release planned for August 5th, 2016.
