Aaron Taylor-Johnson says Kraven the Hunter will look different to the MCU “stage look”

August 18, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Out on the promotional rounds for his latest film Bullet Train, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been taking the opportunity to hype his upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation Kraven The Hunter from Sony Pictures.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor spoke about shooting Kraven on location, how this process differed from Bullet Train’s soundstage production, and how the results will offer something different to Marvel Studios’ “stage look”.

“Kraven being shot entirely on location is going to make all the difference,” said Taylor-Johnson. “It’s going to add something really beautiful to our personal story. It also sets Kraven apart from that Marvel stage look. It’s important for this character to be in the real world. It’s important for the authenticity of the story. When you’re running on streets barefoot, you take in those elements and play within that.”

Given the more primal nature of Sergei Kravinoff’s Kraven, the film adaptation will need to keep a more natural look, but will location shooting be enough to allow it to stand out amongst the crowded superhero pack? We shall find out when it opens in January.

Kraven the Hunter is being directed by J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) and sees Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff alongside Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola, Levi Miller, and Christopher Abbott in as-yet-unconfirmed roles.

Kraven the Hunter is currently set for release on January 13th, 2023.
