Alfre Woodard and John Kani join The Lion King remake

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Captain America: Civil War co-stars Alfre Woodard and John Kani have become the latest additions to the cast of Disney and Jon Favreau’s The Lion King remake.

Woodard is set to voice Sarabi, the mother of Simba, with Kani portraying the baboon Rafiki. The duo join a cast that includes Donald Glover (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Simba, Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street) as Timon, Seth Rogen (Sausage Party) as Pumba, John Oliver (Last WeekTonight) as Zazu and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) as Scar, with James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa from the animated movie.

The Lion King is slated to hit cinemas on July 19th 2019.
