Another two directors in contention for Marvel’s Ant-Man

June 7, 2014 by Gary Collinson

It’s been more than two weeks since Edgar Wright left Marvel’s Ant-Man, but it seems the studio is making slow progress in securing a replacement director for the Phase Three movie.

Having identified a list of potential successors that included Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), Adam McKay (Anchorman) and Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re the Millers) – with the latter two both seemingly declining the opportunity – Marvel then widened its search, adding both Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors) and Michael Dowse (Goon) to its radar.

Now it seems they’ve cast the net even wider, with The Wrap reporting that Peyton Reed (The Break-Up) has emerged as front runner for the film, while The Hollywood Reporter add that David Wain (Role Models) is also under consideration. With production due to get underway next month, we should probably expect an official announcement on Wright’s replacement soon, assuming Marvel isn’t hit with any more rejections.

Ant-Man is currently scheduled for release on July 17th 2015 and will see Paul Rudd (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) leading the cast as Scott Lang alongside Michael Douglas (Behind the Candelabra) as Hank Pym, while Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Matt Gerald (Escape Plan) and Michael Pena (American Hustle) are also set to feature.
