Anthony Mackie says Sam Wilson is “not Captain America” in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

September 1, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Given the events of Avengers: Endgame, fans have assumed that the upcoming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series will see Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson taking on the mantle of Captain America, his character having been handed the shield by an elderly Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) at the conclusion of the Marvel Studios blockbuster.

However, according to Mackie that won’t be the case, as the actor has revealed to IGN that Sam will “always be the Falcon” and won’t be adopting the Captain America moniker:

““I’m not Captain America,” said Mackie. “Just because he told me to hold his shield, he didn’t say ‘you’re Captain America now’. He’s like, ‘I’m gonna go back and see my girl, call me if something happens. I don’t wanna carry this dumb shield.’ I am the Falcon. I will always be the Falcon. The moniker stays the same.”
