Are we ready for Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network Part II?

June 26, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Aaron Sorkin is entering uncharted waters for himself; the filmmaker is tackling a sequel as Deadline  has confirmed that Sorkin will direct and pen the script for The Social Network Part II.

This marks the first sequel of Sorkin’s career, and he’ll also take over directing duties from David Fincher, who helmed 2010’s The Social Network, as well as producing with Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. There’s no word if original star Jesse Eisenberg is on board to return to his role as Mark Zuckerberg.

The sequel will explore the story behind The Facebook Files, a series by Jeff Horowitz for The Wall Street Journal. For those unfamiliar, the articles were published in October 2021 and looked at the inner workings (and drama) surrounding the massive social media platform. It will serve as a follow-up to what Sorkin’s original script covered, which was the very early days of the Mark Zuckerberg-led social media site.

Nominated for eight Oscars, including Best Picture, The Social Network won three, including Sorkin for Best Adapted Screenplay.  Sorkin’s resume also runs deep, including The West Wing, Molly’s Game, The Newsroom, and penning 1992’s A Few Good Men. He’s earned an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, five Primetime Emmy Awards, and three Golden Globes.
