Bad Bunny to star in Sony’s El Muerto, set in the Spider-Man universe

April 26, 2022 by EJ Moreno

CinemaCon is the perfect time of year to learn new movie news. From first look footage to big announcements, it always causes a stir. One of this year’s biggest surprises is the worlds of rap and Marvel movies are coming together like never before.

During the 2022 CinemaCon event, it was announced by Sony Pictures that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny is going to play the next live-action Marvel character. He’ll star in El Muerto, set in the Spider-Man universe alongside Kraven The Hunter, Morbius, Venom and the recently announced Madame Web.

In the comics, the character of El Muerto was a super-powered wrestler who initially fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match. The web-slinger would later save El Muerto’s life from his arch-rival El Dorado.

Deadline notes that Bad Bunny has been persistent about finding a role in a superhero film. He will appear in the upcoming Sony Pictures film, Bullet Train, in which the rapper is said to have a scene-stealing role. Bad Bunny also impressed fans at WrestleMania 37, where he wowed the crowd with his moves and commitment. If the rapper/actor can bring that to this Marvel project, he could turn this unknown character into a star.

El Muerto is set to hit cinemas on January 12th, 2024.
