It may have set a record for best debut for a superhero movie with an opening weekend of $424.1 million around the globe, but Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may not have an entirely smooth ride at the box office.
As part of its opening weekend haul, the film also set the record for the steepest-ever Friday-to-Sunday decline in North America, dropping 55% across the three days (for comparison, Fantastic Four only dropped 48%).
Nevertheless, the Zack Snyder-directed DC epic can now cross one box office milestone off the list, having surpassed the $500 million mark worldwide by close of play on Tuesday with $501.8 million. That total is made up of $193.2 from North America, and $308.6 million internationally.
It will certainly be interested to see how the film performs in its second weekend…
