Bridgerton season 5 teaser announces production start

March 24, 2026 by Ricky Church

Netflix’s hit romance series Bridgerton has begun production on its fifth season. The streamer released a teaser announcing the production start and teasing the which Bridgerton child will be the show’s focus next in their journey for love.

Season 5 will focus on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, with the new season set two years after the fourth season which saw Francesca’s husband John Stirling suddenly pass away. Based on Julia Quinn’s book When He Was Wicked, Fran decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.

The show has gender-swapped Fran’s romance in her book from a man to a woman with Masali Baduza playing Michaela Stirling rather than Michael. She was introduced in the closing moments of the third season and appeared again in the fourth, setting up Francesca’s next romance.

There is no word on when Netflix is aiming for the fifth season to premiere, but every season of Bridgerton has been released after a two-year window so it is likely fans will not see Francesca and Michaela’s romance play out until 2028.

Bridgerton stars Hannah Dodd, Masali Baduza, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Thompson, Luke Newton, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Simone Ashley, Yerin Ha, Ruth Gemmell, Daniel Francis, Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh and the voice of Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown.
