Cassian Andor Star Wars series was reportedly in danger of being scrapped by Disney

October 18, 2019 by Samuel Brace

The Cassian Andor centric Rogue One prequel series for Disney+ sounds like it was nearly cancelled.

Recent news has broken that Rogue One: A Star Wars story co-writer Tony Gilroy has been brought on to helm production of the Star Wars Cassian Andor prequel series but it sounds like the show was in a bit of trouble before he came on board.

Collider’s Steven Weintraub and Variety’s Joe Otterson have both taken to Twitter to share that they heard the series wasn’t in the best shape with Disney nearly pulling the plug entirely:

“I’d heard the Cassian Andor series was shut down a few weeks ago and everyone working on it was sent home. Heard the story/scripts weren’t good enough. Was getting ready to write a story about what I’d been hearing and the news about Tony Gilroy hit. Wonder what day he was hired.”

And Joe Otterson nearly wrote an article that the series had been canned before Gilroy was hired.

That was the original tip I got. I prepped the story but then it turned out to not be the case. I rewrote accordingly but an old version of the headline got saved by mistake. It has been fixed

Fingers crossed Gilroy is able to get the show in the shape it needs to be to please Star Wars fans. Clearly Lucasfilm saw something worth saving with the series.
