Charlize Theron reveals The Old Guard sequel is written and ready to shoot in 2022

July 1, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Netflix have thrown your subscription dollars at some big-budget action films over the last couple of years, most of which have landed with a dull thud. However, Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Old Guard turned out to be terrific fun when it was released during the summer of 2020, and now it has been announced that the script for the sequel is locked and loaded ready for filming next year.

Variety reveal that Charlize Theron has told them that the script is done, and The Old Guard sequel will go before cameras in the first quarter of 2020. There are very few details beyond that, but the Oscar-winning star did go on to say that Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli would also be returning.

Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Greg Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (LOVE & BASKETBALL, BEYOND THE LIGHTS), THE OLD GUARD is a gritty, grounded, action-packed story that shows living forever is harder than it looks.
