Chris Hemsworth set to join Paramount’s Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie

As two powerhouse toy brands meet for a cinematic event, Paramount wants to pull out the big guns as Deadline confirms that actor Chris Hemsworth is in talks to join Paramount’s upcoming crossover movie event, which will mix the worlds of G.I. Joe and Transformers.

As teased in the epilogue of Steven Caple Jr.’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts last summer, we saw the first hint that the two ’80s Hasbro brands will face off in the upcoming new film. Little is known about the plot or additional casting, but now we have Hemsworth front and center.

For those questioning the reasoning for this film, Transformers and G.I. Joe movies combined have grossed a lifetime total of $6 billion at the global box office. With an impressive $439 million, last year’s Rise of the Beasts even outgrossed Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

As for Hemsworth, he is currently starring as Dementus in George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. He’ll next make his Transformers franchise debut in Paramount Animation/Hasbro’s Transformers One, which hits theaters on Sept. 20, 2024.

Transformers One tells the long-awaited origin story of how Orion Pax (Chris Hemsworth) and D-16 (Brian Tyree Henry) went from brothers-in-arms to become sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Transformers One features the voice talents of Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder) as Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry (Bullet Train) as D-16/Megatron, Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) as Elita-1, Keegan-Michael Key (The Super Mario Bros. Movie) as B-127/Bumblebee, Jon Hamm (Top Gun: Maverick) as Sentinel Prime, Laurence Fishburne (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Alpha Trion and Steve Buscemi in an unknown role.
