Cobie Smulders to star in ABC’s comic book adaptation Stumptown

February 26, 2019 by Gary Collinson

How I Met Your Mother and Avengers star Cobie Smulders is set for a return to the small screen, with Deadline reporting that the actress has signed on for the lead role in Stumptown, a TV series adaptation of the Oni Press comic book at ABC.

Based on the comic from Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth, the series will see Smulders in the role of Dex Parios, “a strong, assertive, and unapologetically sharp-witted Army veteran working as a P.I. in Portland, OR. With a complicated personal history and only herself to rely on, she solves other people’s messes with a blind eye toward her own. Once a decorated Military Intelligence officer overseas, Dex is now back home in Portland, Oregon, unable to hold down a steady job, spinning her wheels, running up gambling debts, waiting for trouble to catch up with her — and so it does.”

The pilot has been created and written by Jason Richman (Bangkok Dangerous, Detroit 1-8-7) who will executive produce with Rucka, Southworth and Ruben Fleischer (Venom).

Smulders was most recently seen in Netflix’s cancelled comedy series Friends from College, and also reprises her Marvel role as Agent Maria Hill in July’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. At this point, it’s unknown whether we’ll also see her back for Avengers: Endgame in April.
