Colin Farrell has added another TV series to his upcoming slate, with the actor set to lead Apple TV+’s Sugar from writer Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) and director Fernando Meirelles (City of God).
Apple initially won the rights to Sugar back in December of last year in a competitive bidding situation, but has only now granted a full series order to the project, which Variety describes as “a genre-bending contemporary take on the private detective story set in Los Angeles.”
Sugar becomes the second streaming series on Farrell’s upcoming slate, with The Batman star also having signed on to reprise his role as Oswald Cobbleplot for an HBO Max limited series spinoff focussing on The Penguin. He is of course no stranger to the small screen, having originally broken out in Ballykissangel back in the 1990s as well starring in the likes of True Detective and last year’s The North Water.
In addition to starring in Sugar, Farrell will also executive produce the series alongside Protosevich, Meirelles and Simon Kingberg (X-Men: Dark Phoenix).
