I am unsure why this issue seems to continue with the Theme of “Villains Month” but there is absolutely NO Batman in this issue whatsoever.
Don’t let that take away from the amazing storyline here. Gregg Hurwitz does a phenomenal job with the re-introduction of a classic character: Clayface (Basil Karlo). If you read the last issue of The Dark Knight #23.3 you know that issue featured a side story, and almost concurrent Clayface story dealing with the Secret Society and whatever is happening with the Forever Evil storyline.
This story completely dwarfs that one as we get deeper into the mind of Basil Karlo as a child, and how he became a famous actor, and eventually the psychotic Clayface.
This was a great issue from front to back, starting with the exceptional cover from Alex Maleev, to his intricate inner panel work; it really does paint the picture of Clayface’s origin. Regardless of the fact this book is not “action packed” or there are little to no fight scenes or immense splash pages, this issue easily sets up the upcoming Clayface story arc, and gets you stuck in.
