Comic Book Review – TMNT: Bebop & Rocksteady Destroy Everything! #2

June 8, 2016 by Chris Cooper

Chris Cooper reviews TMNT: Bebop & Rocksteady Destroy Everything! #2…

Bebop and Rocksteady travel to the past and meet their former selves! What could go wrong? Plus: Dinosaurs!!

Gosharoonies!

I’ve got to mention the most important thing about this issue first (the cover is a bit of give away so I don’t consider this a spoiler). Issue #2 of TMNT: Bebop & Rocksteady Destroy Everything! features the return of the most adorable TMNT character that has ever existed. Pepperoni! It is genuinely heart-warming to see her reunited with Raphael, especially when it’s rendered by Sophie Campbell. The issue is worth buying for that and the cover alone.

If there aren’t toys to buy of these characters at some point I’ll have to riot.

So…anyway…giddy dinosaur love out of the way, #2 is a corker. Not only do we have the aforementioned dinos (always a winner in any story) but the entire issue is shot through with strong currents of laughs and interest.

Bebop and Rocksteady meeting their past selves opens up the crazy possibility that they’ve actually…matured? I know, crazy. But it’s there.

Any avid readers of my reviews will know I like headwear. I’m happy to report that Renet’s not only changes, but it is commented upon within the story. It’s not Mikey’s hats but I’ll take it.

The time travel itself is explained pretty well, with the turtles confusion gradually getting cleared up. It’s handled nicely and ties into the generally strong dialogue throughout. It really feels as though this is getting into its stride now.

Rating: 7/10
