Damian Lewis is back as Bobby Axelrod in Billions final season trailer

June 28, 2023 by Ricky Church

Fans of Showtime’s Billions will be very pleased as Damian Lewis returns for the series’ final season as Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod. Watch the trailer below…

Lewis was the series’ original lead alongside Paul Giamatti, but he departed the series at the end of the fifth season due to a number of personal reasons. Part of it was the strain from flying between New York and his home in the UK and the other part was his need to spend more time with is family, a fact that became even more significant after the tragic passing of his wife Helen McCrory, who starred in Peaky Blinders. With his five-season contract up and the series having written a seeming conclusion to Bobby’s story along with McCrory’s passing, Lewis opted not to return for the sixth season.

Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod was the original antagonist in Billions as Giamatti’s US Attorney Charles ‘Chuck’ Rhoades targeted him to expose his crimes of insider trading and bribery on Wall Street. At the end of the fifth season, Bobby took a plea deal to avoid jail, but later absconded to Switzerland before he could be prosecuted. The trailer for season six sees him still in Switzerland, but plotting to come back as his enemies are distracted with much bigger issues than him at the current moment.

In Season 7, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.

Billions also stars Corey Stoll, Maggie Siff, David Costabile, Asia Kate Dillon, Dola Rashad, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sakina Jaffrey, Daniel Breaker and Toney Goins.

Billions Season 7 will premiere August 11th.
