David Tennant doesn’t think Olivia Colman is “a serious option” for Doctor Who

With Peter Capaldi’s tenure as The Doctor coming to an end, there’s been intense speculation as to who’ll be the next actor to take on the role of the Time Lord in the long-running sci-fi series Doctor Who.

As always when a regeneration is on the horizon, there’s been calls for the BBC to introduce a female Doctor, with Olivia Colman seemingly a heavy favourite for the role. However, according to her Broadchurch co-star and former Doctor David Tennant, Colman is not “a serious option” – and not because she’d not be a good fit for the role, but rather she’s simply to busy to commit.

“I really don’t think that’s a serious option,” said Tennant in an interview with EW. “Olivia is busier than any other actor on Earth. I don’t think she’d be able to suddenly take four years to go to Cardiff. I don’t think her schedule would really allow it whether she wanted it or not.”

Other actresses linked with the role include Tilda Swinton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hayley Atwell. A report from The Sun claimed that the BBC has already cast Kris Marshall as Capaldi’s replacement, but that came from The Sun, so…
