DC Entertainment has a strong February & Injustice prevails in comic shops

March 8, 2013 by admin

Justice League of America #1 written by Geoff Johns and drawn by artist David Finch was the best-selling comic book to specialty retailers in February 2013.  DC Entertainment also published 15 out of the top 50 titles during the month with notable sellers including Batman: Night of the Owls, Fables: Cubs in Toyland Vol. 18 and Justice League Vol. 2.  Success was not confine strictly to print as Injustice: Gods Among Us which is based on an upcoming video from Warne Bros. Interactive along with Batman Inc. #8, Batman #17 and Justice League #17 enabled the largest English-language comic book publisher to secure seven out of the 10 top spots on the digital books charts.  In an effort to keep comic book fans satisfied the print comic book version of Injustice: Gods Among Us #2 received a second printing and Django Unchained #1 inspired by the Academy Award winning screenplay by Quentin Tarantino had a third printing.

“February was a tremendous month for DC Entertainment, and the numbers show that fans are engaging with our stories across all platforms – from digital to retail,” said Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment. “We had a record-breaking 2012 in terms of sales, critical acclaim and visibility, including a near 50 per cent increase in fan reach through our websites.  Last year also represented our first full year of support and commitment to We Can Be Heroes, our philanthropic initiative to raise funds and awareness for the famine-stricken Horn of Africa. We are incredibly proud of where the business is and where we are headed in 2013.”

DC Entertainment did well with The New York Times Bestsellers Lists for both hardcovers and paperbacks with notable titles being Wonder Woman Vol. 2, Green Lantern: Revenge of the Black Hand, and Suicide Squad Vol. 2.  Making February even sweeter for the home of Batman and Superman were Gem Awards for Comic Book Publisher of the Year, Backlist Publisher of the Year and Toy Manufacture of the Year for 2012 for DC Collectibles.
