DC’s Stargirl renewed for second season as The CW exclusive

July 6, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Having shared custody of the series with the DC Universe streaming app for its first season, The CW is set to become the exclusive home of Stargirl, with the network officially renewing the live-action DC show for a second season.

The series, which stars Brec Bassinger in the title role of high schooler-turned-superhero Courtney Whitmore, was initially set to air exclusively on DC Universe alongside other original DC shows such as Titans, Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing. However, it was then announced that The CW would air episodes the day after their premiere on the streaming service.

Beginning with the season two premiere, The CW will become the exclusive in-season home to Stargirl, as well as making episodes available for streaming the following day on its free ad-supported platforms.

Stargirl is part of an ever-expanding DC line-up on The CW, airing alongside The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning and Batwoman. The Man of Steel will also join in the action this upcoming season with the premiere of Superman & Lois starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch.

Stargirl follows the story of Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) who is a smart, athletic and above all else kind girl. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married, and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.

Featuring in the cast of Stargirl are Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) as Stargirl alongside Amy Smart (Justified), Luke Wilson (Roadies), Trae Romano (Robbie), Joel McHale (Community), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (S.W.A.T.), Brian Stapf (The Walking Dead), Henry Thomas (The Haunting of Hill House), Joy Osmanski (The Santa Clarita Diet), Neil Hopkins (Matador), Nelson Lee (Mulan), Meg DeLacey (The Fosters), Anjelika Washington (Young Sheldon), Yvette Monreal (Matador), Christopher James Baker (True Detective), Neil Jackson (Westworld), Hunter Sansone (Drama Drama) and Jake Austin Walker (Rectify).
