Deleted Darth Vader scene teased with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story image

February 5, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

As Hayden Christensen prepares to suit up and get his deep-breathing game on again for Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Industrial Light & Magic’s Animation Director has been sharing his memories of the last time we saw Darth Vader on-screen in Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Hal Hickel was tweeting a number of images from his time on set, with this one providing a wider look at a shot that was featured in the film’s official trailer (see image below), but never made the final cut of a movie that was subject to much-publicised edits and reshoots. Hickel said that the scene was removed because it no longer worked with the film’s narrative.

Would you ever like to see a director’s cut of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or do you think the film is fine as it is? Don’t forget to let us know what you think about this news using our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story features a cast that includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Diego Luna (Milk), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises), Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Alan Tudyk (Con Man), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler), Genevieve O’Reilly (Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith), Jimmy Smits (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), James Earl Jones (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope), Valene Kane (The Fall), Alistair Petrie (The Night Manager), Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode IV – Return of the Jedi) and Jonathan Aris (Sherlock).
