Dennis Quaid to play Ronald Reagan in biopic

June 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Dennis Quaid is set to take on the role of Ronald Reagan in a biopic of the 40th President of the United States, which is being directed by Sean McNamara (The Miracle Season) and produced by Mark Joseph (Max Rose).

THR reports that the film – titled Reagan – will explore his life from boyhood through his presidency of both the United States and the Screen Actors Guild, his time as governor of California, his attempted assassination by John Hinckley Jr., his role in the fall of the Berlin Wall, and his final days dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.

“Reagan was a fascinating and multifaceted human being and this movie captures his humanity,” said Quaid. “We’re making a movie for Republicans and Democrats alike since Reagan transcends politics. I can’t wait to get started.”

“Dennis was always our first choice. He’s one of the great actors of our time,” added Joseph, who is said to have met with 50 of Reagan’s friends, confidantes and cabinet members in order to accurately tell his life story.

Quaid was last seen on the big screen in the Christian film I Can Only Imagine, and also appeared in the second season of Amazon’s Fortitude. Next up is the sci-fi film Kin, set for release in August [watch the trailer here].
