Donald Glover to lead another of Sony’s Spider-Man spinoffs: Hypno-Hustler

December 17, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Donald Glover has found his way into the Spider-Man universe once again.

After a very brief role in Spider-Man: Homecoming and voicing Miles Morales in the animated Ultimate Spider-Man, Glover will now star as one of Spider-Man’s most obscure villains ever as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that he is attached to star as Hypno-Hustler, a musician super-villain known for his hypnotizing music, in his own solo movie.

Penning the script is Myles Murphy, the son of actor and comedian Eddie Murphy. Murphy is relativity new to Hollywood but certainly has the pedigree to make something worthwhile, especially teaming with Glover. The singer and actor will produce alongside Murphy.

Hypno-Hustler is known as Antoine Delsoin, the leader of a band called the Mercy Killers. The character uses hypnosis technology in his instruments on his audience in order to rob them. The character was created by Bill Mantlo, the man behind Rocket Racoon and artist Frank Springer. The character first appeared in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #24, in 1978.

There’s no word on how Sony Pictures will rework this, but THR reports that Glover could reinvent the character in a whole new way. While Hypno-Hustler is known for his disco music, Glover could use his various musical talents to take it down any avenue. THR goes on to note there’s a way it could be a “disco period piece, a modern hip-hop version, or even a cyberpunk future play.

Hypno-Hustler joins a growing list of Spider-Man spinoffs at Marvel which includes Kraven the Hunter, El Muerto, Madame Web and Venom 3.
