Elisabeth Moss set for A Letter from Rosemary Kennedy

February 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week it was announced that Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winner Elisabeth Moss has signed on to reunite with her Queen of Earth director Alex Ross Perry for Her Smell, and now comes word that The Handmaid’s Tale star has booked another big screen role.

Variety is reporting that Moss will portray Rosemary Kennedy, the elder sister of President John F. Kennedy, in director Ritesh Batra’s (Our Souls at Night) new feature A Letter from Rosemary Kennedy, which is based on a Black List script by first-time screenwriter Nick Yarborough.

The eldest daughter of Joe Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, Rosemary was born with learning difficulties and proved to be an embarrassment to her father. She was kept from public view, and suffered a botched lobotomy aged 23 which left her incapacitated and institutionalised for the rest of her life, with minimal contact from her family.

According to the site, the film will be based n personal letters illustrating her wish to connect with her family and how her story became a catalyst for change and left behind a legacy for generation to follow.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this poignant and true story to life based on one of the hidden gems of the Kennedy family, with a masterful filmmaker in Ritesh Batra, the brilliant Elisabeth Moss, and a beautifully crafted screenplay by Nick Yarborough,” said producers Jason Michael Berman and Kevin Turen.
