Elizabeth Olsen on a Scarlet Witch solo movie and whether we might see her origins retconned once mutants arrive in the MCU

April 7, 2018 by Gary Collinson

At one point or another, virtually every supporting player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expressed their desire to see their characters headlining a solo movie, and so the latest comments from Elizabeth Olsen certainly make for a refreshing change.

Speaking to People, the Avengers: Infinity War star was asked whether she has any ambitions to see the Scarlet Witch leading her own film, with the actress responding that: “We are at ground zero. It’s definitely not something I’m pushing. I don’t know if it’s something they’re going to push either. I joke [with co-star Paul Bettany] about having a domestic television show on Netflix or something. It would just be like house event, where Scarlet Witch goes bananas. That’s what we joke about but I don’t think either of those things are happening.”

In a different interview, Olsen also shared her thoughts on whether she thinks we’ll see Wanda’s origin retconned once Disney completes its 20th Century Fox acquisition and mutants become available to the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“I don’t think so because we’ve gone so far to create a non X-Men universe backstory for my character. And now it’s the reason I’m connected to Vision, because the stone in his head is the stone that gave me my powers. So we really leap into the stones. So I don’t think so, however, if there were a Michael Fassbender being my daddy crossover I would say, ‘Yes please.’ I would love to work with Fassbender.”
