Exclusive Interview: Wes Ball, director of Maze Runner: The Death Cure

January 25, 2018 by Freda Cooper

The Maze Runner was a game changer for Wes Ball.  The combination of bringing a hit YA novel to the screen and directing his first ever feature film was a daunting prospect.  Some five years later, he’s made the third and final movie in the series, Maze Runner:The Death Cure, and it’s job done!

The final adventure for Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and the Gladers sees them searching for a cure for the Flare, a deadly virus – and putting a stop to WCKD’s Doctor Paige (Patricia Clarkson) as she tries to do the same thing.  Thomas and his group have to break into the Last City, a maze in its own right and it’s a mission that could destroy them all.

Talking to Flickering Myth’s Freda Cooper, Wes reveals some of the difficulties involved in making the final instalment, including bringing such a large cast back together – twice.  He speculates on what he might be doing next and sets the record straight on a rumoured horror project.
