Fast & Furious 7 retains top spot at the UK box office

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 17th April to Sunday 19th April 2015…

Well, not much of a surprise here. Having steamrolled the competition on its way to becoming the first billion dollar instalment in the franchise (and the seventh biggest film of all-time), Universal’s Fast & Furious 7 retained top spot at the UK box office at the third time of asking, banking £3.4 million to push its haul on these shores beyond the £32 million mark.

The highest new entry of the week was the Soviet-era thriller Child 44 starring Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, which pulled in £505,558 to claim fourth place, followed by Alan Rickman’s A Little Chaos in seventh with £331,530 and teen comedy The Duff in eighth with £326,105.

2. Cinderella – £1,083,245 weekend (4 weeks)
3. Home – £854,377 weekend (5 weeks)

6. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water – £365,505 weekend (4 weeks)
7. A Little Chaos – £331,530 weekend (New)
8. The Duff – £326,105 weekend (New)
9. John Wick – £311,102 weekend (2 weeks)
10. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 – £289,809 weekend (2 weeks)

Incoming…

Well, it’s not hard to predict a winner for this coming weekend, with Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (cert. 12A) [read our review here] debuting at midnight tonight, where it will likely challenge records for the UK’s biggest opening. If superheroes aren’t your thing, then you do have a few options from Friday, with Stoneheart Asylum (cert. 15), The Good Lie (cert. 12A) and The Falling (cert. TBC) among the films set to be trampled under the mighty Marvel machine…
