Fast & Furious 7 speeds its way past $500 million at the global box office

April 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Despite having only opened last weekend, it seems the world just cannot get enough of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in Fast & Furious 7, as the film continues to break box-office records across the globe.

In less than a week, Furious 7 has now speeded past $500 million mark at the worldwide box office and will be the year’s biggest release so far by the weekend.

The final film to star the late Paul Walker reached a new milestone on Wednesday as its domestic take increased to over $183 million, as well as a staggering $343 million internationally, lifting it to over $526 million. It is now catching up to Universal’s other smash-hit of 2015, Fifty Shades of Grey, which stands at over $566 million worldwide.

The film will again be in number  position in its second weekend, with the Nicholas Sparks’ adaptation The Longest Ride only set to open around $12 million domestically. It could well stay atop the US and UK box office over the next few weeks before the arrival of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Furious 7 is out in cinemas nationwide now. Read our reviews here, here, here and here.
