Fear remake heading to Peacock as TV series

October 12, 2022 by EJ Moreno

1996’s Fear is coming back, which could prove even scarier in the age of toxic relationships and social media.

Variety reports that Fear will return with Jessica Goldberg set to write and executive produce a TV adaptation. Brian Grazer, a producer for the original film, is returning to executive producing along with Ron Howard, Lilly Burns, and Kristen Zolner. Peacock will distribute the series.

The original Fear was released in 1996, with James Foley directing a script penned by Christopher Crowe. It would gain cult status and become a pivotal movie for many millennials.

With a young cast that included Reese Witherspoon, Mark Wahlberg, and Alyssa Milano, Fear smashed it at the box office as it grossed $21 million against a reported budget of $6.5 million.

The logline for Fear reads: “This modern series reinvention finds two young lovers in a psychological game of cat and mouse—but who’s the cat, and who’s the mouse? When David and Nicole first meet in Seattle, it feels like an epic, once-in-a-lifetime romance – but soon, it becomes clear that the seemingly perfect couple is anything but. Told from conflicting points of view, the series wrestles with personal demons and hidden agendas and reframes the “he said, she said” convention into a twist-filled suspense story about toxic relationships.”
