First look at Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Man on Fire series

January 8, 2026 by Ricky Church

Netflix has shared the first image of its Man on Fire series which sees Yahya Abdul-Manteen II (Aquaman) taking on the role of John Creasy in the action thriller. Check it out below…

Man on Fire is based on the book series by A.J. Quinnell, adapting the first two books Man on Fire and The Perfect Kill in the eight-episode season. The series will follow Abdul-Mateen as John Creasy, “a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations. When viewers meet Creasy, he is now plagued with intense PTSD. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.”

Starring alongside Abdul-Mateen are Billie Boullet (A Small Light), Bobby Cannavale (MaxXxin), Alice Braga (Dark Matter), Scoot McNairy (A Complete Unknown) and Paul Ben-Victor (The Wire). The series is created by Kyle Kinnen (Fear Street), who will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer.

Man on Fire has been brought to the big screen twice, first in 1987 with Scott Glenn as Christian Creasy and directed by Élie Chouraqui. It was again adapted in 2004 with Denzel Washington as John Creasy from director Tony Scott. The latter film has often been cited as one of Washingston’s best.
