First Spider-Man: Homecoming reactions hit the web, suggest another winner for Marvel Studios

June 24, 2017 by Justin Cook

Marvel fans can breathe a sigh of relief! The first string of reactions from press members who have seen Spider-Man: Homecoming at an early screening have hit the web (no pun intended), and they claim that the summer blockbuster is a rip-roaring, crowd-pleasing good time.

Praise, in particular, is being directed towards the film’s John Hughes-inspired tone, diverse cast and Tom Holland, who many have described as the best on-screen Spider-Man yet. Even despite Marvel Studios’ spotty track record with compelling antagonists, Michael Keaton’s Vulture has been described as one of the stronger Marvel Cinematic Universe villains. Overall, if the previous three Spider-Man solo films (Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man) were examples of Spidey at his worst, Homecoming sounds like a return to form for the web-slinger. See the hugely positive reactions for yourself down below…

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a blast. It has an innocence that differentiates it from the other MCU movies but plenty of fun & spectacle too.

#SpiderManHomecoming is SUCH a good time. Fun, inventive action w/ some of the best humor in a Marvel film yet. Great start for MCU Spidey! pic.twitter.com/8kTnG6wtO2

As a huge Spider-Man fan who hated both AMAZING SPIDER-MANs, I am so happy to say SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is really fun. Tom Holland = 👍🏻👍🏻

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is pure joy. Tom Holland is perfect: He's having the time of his life, and it shows.

I can finally tell you #SpiderManHomecoming is great fun. Very funny, sweet, smaller stakes but more relatable. Tom Holland rocks. pic.twitter.com/eZmyUBXYKe

If you loved @TomHolland1996 in Civil War, you're gonna love him in #SpiderManHomecoming! & @MichaelKeaton is such a great bad guy in this!

#SpiderManHomecoming is fantastic. Perfectly cast. Does an impressive job of balancing superheroics & high school drama.

— Angie J. Han (@ajhan) June 24, 2017

#SpiderManHomecoming is my favorite Marvel movie. Full stop. Spidey is home at Marvel. Best action in ANY Spidey. A non-stop thrill. LOVE

#SpiderManHomecoming felt just like reading a Marvel comic book — other heroes appear, heart-stopping twists, and bursting with humor. pic.twitter.com/Hx3tzBsaNB

HOMECOMING is the BEST #SpiderMan movie since Spider-Man 2! @MarvelStudios & @SonyPictures got it RIGHT! A Spidey movie for EVERYONE! pic.twitter.com/Ei4Yc0ZQoi

— Scott Mantz 🖖 (@MovieMantz) June 24, 2017

Michael Keaton gives us the best MCU movie villain since Loki. Maybe better. #SpiderManHomecoming

— Kristy Puchko (@KristyPuchko) June 24, 2017

#SpiderManHomecoming is the third best Spider-Man movie. The cast is great, the tone is affable, the drama is… a little thin, honestly.

If Homecoming is the hit for Marvel Studios that these reactions make it seem like it will be, the studio will continue its major winning streak (that can pretty much be traced back to the birth of the MCU in 2008). After the film hits theaters on July 7th, the last 2017 Marvel movie will be Thor: Ragnarok, due out on November 3rd.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei reprising their roles from Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Aunt May, alongside Marvel veterans Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Chris Evans as Captain America. New additions to the cast include Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Michael Barbieri, Abraham Attah, Hannibal Buress, Kenneth Choi, Angourie Rice, Michael Chernus, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green and Jennifer Connelly.
