First trailer for The Critic starring Ian McKellen and Gemma Arterton

The first trailer has arrived online for The Critic, director Anand Tucker’s u[coming adaptation of Anthony Quinn’s novel Curtain Call.

Set in the 1930s, the period thriller stars Ian McKellen as a feared theatre critic who takes pleasure in regularly tearing down actress Nina Land (Gemma Arterton), until his newspaper is taken over and he is fired, causing him to set into motion a devious plan with the help of Nina, setting off a chain of terrible consequences.

Joining Ian McKellen and Gemma Arterton in the cast are Mark Strong, Ben Barnes, Alfred Enoch, Romola Garai and Lesley Manville. Watch the trailer below…

“London, 1934. When the most feared and vicious theatre critic in town Jimmy Erskine (Ian McKellen), finds himself suddenly in the cross hairs of the Daily Chronicle’s new owner David Brooke (Mark Strong), he strikes a Faustian pact with struggling actress Nina Land (GemmaArterton) who is desperate to win his favour.”

The Critic arrives in cinemas on September 13th.
