First two episodes of Marvel’s Luke Cage directed by Paul McGuigan

March 22, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With the second season of Daredevil now on Netflix, attention is starting to shift to the streaming services third Marvel show Luke Cage. We’ve already seen the official logo and the first teaser trailer, and now we have details on who directed the first two episodes, with Paul McGuigan making the announcement on Twitter…

@empiremagazine @LukeCage …don't tell anyone but I might have directed the pilot and second episode…just saying.

— Paul McGuigan (@paul_mcguigan) March 19, 2016

The Scottish director has helmed such films as Gangster No. 1, Lucky Number Slevin and Victor Frankenstein, as well as episodes of Monroe, Scandal and Sherlock, including the pilot episode ‘A Study in Pink’.

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Luke Cage premieres on September 30th, with Mike Colter leading the cast as Power Man alongside Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) as Claire Temple, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) as Shades, Alfre Woodard (Desperate Housewives) as Black Mariah, Simone Missick (Ray Donovan) as Misty Knight, Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) as Cottonmouth, Frank Whaley (Gotham) as Detective Scarfe and Sonia Braga (Brothers & Sisters) as Soledad Temple.
