Friday the 13th reboot loses its director, gains another new script writer

December 4, 2015 by admin

The seemingly never-ending saga of the latest reboot to the Friday the 13th franchise has hit another roadblock today as The Wrap are reporting that the film has lost its director.

V/H/S and The Signal helmer David Brucker has been attached to the project for over a year now, but has now left the project. Sources for The Wrap have said that Paramount plan to go back to Bruckner once a new script is finished as they really want to continue working with him.

And that new script will be coming from Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) according to Variety. He will be taking over from Nick Antosca (Hannibal), who was hired to pen the latest draft back in March.

Paramount picked up the rights for a new Friday the 13th movie in a deal with Warner Bros for the distribution rights to Interstellar, with an original release date of March 3rd, 2015. It was then pushed back to November 6th, 2015, then to May 13th, 2016 and now to January 13th, 2017.

One of the reasons for the various delays, however, is the announcement that the long-rumoured Found Footage Friday the 13th was scrapped and a new rumoured plot line will “answer the decades-old question of why slasher Jason Voorhees can’t be killed”. They’ve clearly forgotten that Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday answered that question. Something about a dark heart that people eat, or something.
