Although Wonder Woman garnered near-universal acclaim following its release last year – including a nomination at the WGA Awards this week – one person who didn’t seem to be much of a fan was James Cameron, with the Titanic and Avatar director describing the movie as a “step backwards” for the representation of females on screen.
While both director Patty Jenkins and TV Wonder Woman Lynda Carter both issues firm responses to Cameron’s criticisms, the Amazon Princess herself Gal Gadot opted to stay silent on the subject, and during an interview with EW, the actress has revealed why:
“Because I didn’t want to give him the stage,” said Gadot. “First of all, I’m a big fan of his work. His movies are great. He was very innovative in many things that he did, and I’ve got nothing but great things to say about the creative and professional side of his work. When it happened, the timing of when it happened, he was promoting another movie of his. It was like he was looking for publicity and I just didn’t want to give him the stage.”
Despite Cameron’s criticisms of the film, Gadot has enjoyed a stellar year over the past twelve months, becoming the highest-grossing actress in Hollywood thanks to her roles in Wonder Woman and Justice League.
