Glen Powell heads into the danger zone with Top Gun: Maverick role

August 4, 2018 by Gary Collinson

He may have lost out on the part of Goose’s son to Miles Teller (Whiplash), but actor Glen Powell (The Expendables 3) has now found himself cast in a different role in the upcoming Top Gun sequel Top Gun: Maverick.

Details of Powell’s role are being kept under wraps, but the actor will join the returning Tom Cruise (Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell) and Val Kilmer (Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky), as well as Teller and fellow new cast addition Jennifer Connelly, the latter of whom is set for the female lead.

The sequel to the 1986 box office smash is being directed by Joseph Koskinski, who reunites with Cruise after working with the star on the sci-fi thriller Oblivion. Production on the film is expected to get underway in September, ahead of a planned June 12th 2019 release.
