Grant Morrison returns to DC to write The Green Lantern

July 20, 2018 by Ricky Church

Grant Morrison is one of the most celebrated writers in comics having written several great and out there series such as Invisibles, Happy and many stories for DC that took on their flagship heroes, whether it was in Justice League, Batman or the fan-favourite All-Star Superman. A few years ago, though, he announced he was taking a break from writing superhero comics to focus on some other series. Well, that break must have done him some good because he announced at the San Diego Comic-Con International that he is returning to DC to relaunch Green Lantern in  The Green Lantern.

Morrison will be teamed with artist Liam Sharp, who has previously illustrated Wonder Woman and The Brave and The Bold: Batman and Wonder Woman, on a series that seeks to bring pilot-turned-Green Lantern Hal Jordan back to his roots. IGN revealed details of the series in an interview with Morrison and Sharp as well as a first look at Sharp’s artwork.

“Instead of the big, epic, 12-part stories, we’re focusing down on the everyday life of a space cop. Basically, it’s no more apocalypse-ending storylines,” Morrison said. “The basic concept is that Hal Jordan is like a space cop that patrols a sector of the universe where anything can happen. We’ve made it more like a police procedural.”

Rather than focusing on the other human Green Lanterns, such as Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Guy Gardener or the recent addition Simon Baz, the series will strictly follow Hal Jordan. Likewise, fans won’t see any of the other coloured Lantern corps that have popped up in the last decade, but will focus solely on the Green Lantern Corps.

The Green Lantern will launch in November.
