J.A. Bayona confirms Jurassic World trilogy

September 11, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With Jurassic World proving to be a mega-hit at the box office, grossing a whopping $1.67 billion worldwide, Universal Pictures wasted little time in announcing a sequel, set for release in 2018.

However, with director Colin Trevorrow signing on for Star Wars: Episode XI, J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) is taking over the reins for the next chapter of the dinosaur franchise, and Bayona has been chatting to Latino Review about the sequel, confirming that it is planned as the middle instalment of a Trevorrow-steered trilogy.

“The whole Jurassic World is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned,” said Bayona during a promotional interview for his new film A Monster Calls. “We’re writing the second chapter, and it’s very interesting where he’s leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”

Jurassic World 2 will see the return of Chris PRatt and Bryce Dallas Howard as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, and is scheduled to start production in Hawaii in early 2017 ahead of a release on June 22nd 2018.
