Jack Black on how Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle connects to the Robin Williams movie

June 22, 2017 by Gary Collinson

When it was first announced that a new Jumanji movie was in the works, it was assumed that it would be a reboot of the beloved 1995 movie, only for star Dwayne Johnson to confirm last summer that it is in fact a sequel to the original. Now, in an interview with THR, The Rock’s co-star Jack Black has revealed just how it will tie in with the Robin Williams film:

We’re exploring this jungle and trying to conquer the game; it’s life or death, but while we’re there, we find clues left behind by [Robin Williams’ character Alan Parrish],” states Black. “He built up a full-blown jungle house, similar to a Swiss Family Robinson situation. It’s like he’s there helping us without actually being there… [In the original] you never got to see the inside world, but this one takes place primarily inside the jungle of Jumanji. That’s the coolest part of the film — we’re able to transport the audience to that secret and wondrous land, with the danger and the beauty.”

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will follow four teens who find themselves transported into the world of Jumanji via a video game, where they take on the avatars of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is set for release on December 22nd 2017 and sees Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape) directing a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson (The Fate of the Furious), Kevin Hart (Central Intelligence), Jack Black (Goosebumps), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Rhys Darby (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Nick Jonas (Scream Queens), Alex Wolff (The Sitter), Madison Iseman (Still the King), Morgan Turner (Remember Me) and Ser’Darius Blain (Star Trek Into Darkness).
