James Gunn comments on the Spider-Man situation, praises Tom Holland and director Jon Watts

August 27, 2019 by Samuel Brace

James Gunn, director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, has commented on the situation regarding Spider-Man leaving the MCU, offering praise for star Tom Holland and actor Jon Watts.

The situation between Sony and Disney over Spider-Man is certainly a messy one and, unfortunately, it means that the character is left outside the MCU. Plenty of big names have given their thoughts on the subject and now Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has had his say.

Responding to a fan on social media (via ComicBook.com), the director said: “It’s two corporations working their shit out. I have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. But speaking of that, the day I shot this scene was the day I introduced Tom Holland to Stan Lee for the first time. Tom and Spider-Man director Jon Watts are both class acts.”

Gunn is certainly familiar with Marvel/Disney drama after his dismissal and subsequent rehiring on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and fans will be hoping there is a happy ending for Spider-Man like there was for the director.
