James Gunn reveals Lex Luthor’s battle suit for Man of Tomorrow

June 1, 2026 by Ricky Church

With production ongoing on the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has revealed a new image of Lex Luthor’s battle suit for the anticipated film.

Lex Luthor is one of the most brilliant scientists and inventors in the DC universe, a point shown in Superman as he successfully created his own secret pocket universe to travel around the world instantaneously and imprison Superman and others from speaking out against him. For all his intelligence, though, he can never go toe-to-toe with Superman in a physical fight and created a battle suit to take him on which has appeared in several pieces of Superman media ranging from the comics, TV series and video games.

Man of Tomorrow marks the first time Luthor’s suit, which is often powered by Kryptonite, will be brought to life in a feature film. The suit was teased in Gunn’s announcement of the sequel with DC artists Jim Lee, Jorge Jimenez and Mitch Gerads, but this is the first official image of Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult in the suit on the film’s set.

While plot details are scarce, what Gunn has revealed is Superman and Luthor forming a reluctant partnership as they face Brainiac, one of Superman’s deadliest enemies who will be making his own feature debut in the film.

Man of Tomorrow sees the return of Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Gabriella de Faria as The Engineer and Milly Alcock as Supergirl. New additions include Aaron Pierre reprising his Lanterns role as John Stewart/Green Lantern, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, and Adria Arjona and Matthew Lillard in unknown roles.

While we still have a year to wait for Man of Tomorrow, fans will see both David Corenswet and Milly Alcock again in DC Studios’ next film Supergirl which will be released on June 26th.
