Jason Bateman to star in Joel Edgerton’s directorial debut Weirdo

January 14, 2015 by William Fanelli

Jason Bateman has signed on to star alongside Rebecca Hall in Joel Edgerton’s upcoming directorial debut film. The film, based off a script written by Edgerton, does not yet have an official title but it is going by the name of Weirdo.

According to Deadline, Bateman and Hall will play a married couple who attempt to reignite their relationship by moving to a new town. Their plans quickly take a turn for the worse when an old friend from the past reappears and sets into motion a chilling course of events, giving truth to phrase “nothing is ever as it seems.”

Edgerton broke out as an actor with his role in 2011’s Warrior. He has since appeared in Zero Dark Thirty, Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 remake of The Great Gatsby and more recently Exodus: Gods and Kings. Lately, he has been making the jump to the offscreen side of things, writing the script and producing the 2013 film Felony, of which he starred in with Tom Wilkinson. He also received story credit for the Guy Pearce & Robert Pattinson-led The Rover. He is set to appear in four films in 2015, including Black Mass with Benedict Cumberbatch, Johnny Depp and Sienna Miller.

Edgerton is set to produce Weirdo, along with Rebecca Yeldham and Jason Blum at Blumhouse.
