Jason Momoa says Aquaman sequel has higher stakes, more comedy and bigger action

October 4, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Jason Momoa is currently reprising the role of Arthur Curry as production on Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom continues in the UK, and the star has taken a break from filming to hype up the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, promising bigger stakes, bigger laughs and bigger action.

“It’s exciting because I haven’t made too many sequels,” states Momoa in an interview with Fandango. “I just know that it’s, even on the page, it’s absolutely wonderful. There is so much going on. I think the stakes are a lot higher. There’s a lot of comedy. So, I mean, I giggled reading it. There’s a lot of fun, and definitely the action’s [bigger].”

The actor went on to talk about the technical advancements since the first film, adding that: “I think just in the last three or four years, technology is constantly [evolving]. It’s just moving at such a rapid pace that what we’re doing with underwater [sequences], I mean, that’s what made the first one so amazing. It’s just gone on to a whole other level, so I’m excited for everyone because it’s just a lot more heart. There’s a lot more at risk.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom reunites director James Wan with Aquaman stars Jason Momoa (Arthur Curry), Amber Heard (Mera), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), Patrick Wilson (Orm), Temuera Morrison (Tom Curry), Randall Park (Stephen Shin), Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus) alongside new DCEU additions Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones),Indya Moore (Queen & Slim), Vincent Regan (300) and Jani Zhao (South).

Aquaman and the Last Kingdom is scheduled for release on December 16th 2022.
