Jeremy Renner would “love to do” a Hawkeye/Black Widow team-up movie, but no discussions are happening

January 4, 2017 by Justin Cook

Even after 14 films, there are still several superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that haven’t been nearly as fleshed out as Iron Man, Captain America and several others, despite being around for about as long.

Two of these characters include Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. While there have been campaigns aplenty to get Black Widow her own solo film, and it seems as if it might finally happen in Phase Four of the MCU, Hawkeye hasn’t received nearly as much attention. Although in Renner’s mind, a Hawkeye/Black Widow team-up movie makes perfect sense and he’d totally be game for making one.

While speaking to British newspaper Metro (via Edmonton Sun), the actor touched on this topic, saying: “I always thought it would make sense early on to do a Hawkeye/Widow movie because they’re quite similar – they don’t have powers, have high skill sets, and have history together, but I don’t think there are any discussions about that happening. I’d love to do it though.”

Something that’s become quite clear through such films as The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron is that Barton and Romanoff have a history together and share a close relationship. For example, Romanoff was the only person who Barton told about his family before the whole team retreated to his house and found out in Age of Ultron. A film focused on the duo could give viewers insight into how they met, the missions they went on for S.H.I.E.L.D. and even if they were ever romantically involved with one another. Also, the film would still work even if Hawkeye bites the dust in either of the Avengers: Infinity War films, as some fans have theorized, since it could take place before the events of most of the MCU movies.
