Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor returns for new Doctor Who adventure The Violet Hour

March 13, 2026 by Andrew Newton

Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor takes a journey into the East End in The Violet Hour by Rafaella Marcus, a brand-new full-cast audio drama, available now from the Big Finish website. This latest spooky adventure takes the Doctor and companion Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) to 1920s London, where they encounter ghosts, aliens and a few scares. Big Finish has also released a new video (see below) offering a teaser of the upcoming adventure…

Having arrived in London, 1926, the time-travelling duo find a population dealing with the losses of the Great War and the Spanish flu. However, it’s the recent death of a medium and a strange message that has the Doctor intrigued. When investigating the medium’s death, the Doctor and Yasmin discover seances that hide an unearthly power, one that threatens the whole of London.

Joining Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill in this new adventure are David Robb as the grieving Colonel Maltravers, as well as Liv Andrusier as the medium Esther, Olivia Marcus as her sister Miriam, Joseph Arkley as doctor Kidney, and Anna Crichlow as Nellie.

Jodie Whittaker said: “It’s a really beautiful script, with ghostly elements explored in a very unique way, and so many different characters of different ages as well – people whose grief is through loss of a family, and young people who’ve lost someone instantly. And it touches on the Spanish flu, which, now we all know what it’s like to live through a pandemic, feels incredibly relevant.”

Doctor Who – The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures: The Violet Hour is available from the Big Finish website for £9.99 for the download, or £13.99 for the download and limited collector’s edition CD.
