Joe Manganiello to play Deathstroke in Ben Affleck’s Batman movie

September 8, 2016 by Gary Collinson

A couple of weeks ago, Ben Affleck dropped a rather interesting surprise for DC fans when he shared some footage of Slade Wilson – a.k.a. Deathstroke, with a report then emerging that the mercenary would be the main villain in Affleck’s solo Batman movie.

Well, according to The Wall Street Journal, DC Films boss Geoff Johns has now confirmed that to be the case, and furthermore he’s also revealed that Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike) will be portraying the character, and was also the actor in costume in the test footage. Johns would neither confirm or deny that Deathstroke will be making a cameo appearance in next year’s Justice League movie.

Manganiello had previously been rumoured for the role of Deathstroke in Suicide Squad, but as we all now know, the character was absent from the supervillain ensemble. He’s also no stranger to comic book movies, having portrayed Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

Johns is co-writing the script for the Batman movie with Ben Affleck, who is also directing in addition to reprising his role as The Dark Knight. As yet, there’s no word on a release date.

What do you make of Manganiello’s casting as Deathstroke? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
