John Boyega says filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII to get underway “in a few weeks”

December 27, 2015 by Gary Collinson

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens raking in the cash at the box office, it looks like the cast of the film will be heading back to the galaxy far, far away this January, with John Boyega revealing at a screening in Brixton’s Ritzy cinema that production on Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to get underway “in a few weeks”.

“I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for coming out and supporting this movie,” said Boyega (via Sky News). “The movie is yours now and I really hope you enjoyed it and we are so happy to be starting on Episode VIII in a few weeks in London and it is going to be fun.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII will see Rian Johnson (Looper) taking over directing duties, and is scheduled to arrive on May 26th 2017. However, we won’t have to wait that long for our next Star Wars movie, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set to arrive on December 16th 2016.
