Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles in 24 Jump Street, the third installment in the $500 million grossing franchise for Sony Pictures.
Titled 24 Jump Street because it took so long to make they had to skip one, Variety report that the trio are set to return for the comedy, which will be directed by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘s Rodney Rothman, who will shoot from a script he co-wrote with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy (Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken). Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, are on board as producers.
Based on the late ’80s TV series starring Johnny Depp, 2012’s 21 Jump Street and 2014’s 22 Jump Street were critical and commercial smashes, and featured Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as Schmidt and Jenko, two bumbling cops who go undercover in the school system in order to take down criminal operations. Ice Cube played their increasingly exasperated boss, Captain Dickson.
A third film has been the subject of rumour and entertainment news pages for well over a decade, and at one point a Jump Street and Men in Black crossover movie was close to being greenlit at Sony.
