Kevin Feige promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Marvel, will oversee creative direction of all film, TV and publishing

October 16, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Having steered the Marvel Cinematic Universe to unprecedented levels of success – its 23 movies grossing over $22.5 billion at the global box office – Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has now been appointed Chief Creative Officer of Marvel, giving him responsibility for all of Marvel’s film, television and creative aspects of publishing.

As reported by Deadline, the move will see Marvel Television and Marvel Animation moving under the banner of Marvel Studios, which has recently announced its own intention to move into the TV arena with the Disney+ shows The Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, What If?, WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight.

Despite claiming that “It’s All Connected”, there has been a divide between Marvel’s film and TV output up to this point, with Feige and Marvel Studios paying very little attention to Marvel Television’s output under Jeph Loeb, which includes the likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Netflix’s various Defenders shows, Runaways, and Cloak & Dagger.

How Marvel Television’s current and upcoming shows such as Helstrom will be impacted by this reshuffle remains to be seen, although one would assume that we’ll see a shift towards the Marvel Studios-produced shows taking place explicitly within the MCU once Feige puts his stamp on the company’s creative direction across the board.

Along with his myriad Marvel duties, it was also recently announced that Feige will be teaming with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy to produce a new Star Wars movie, details of which are being kept tightly under wraps at present.
